cost of new gTLD
Coming from a small developing nation, I heartly agree that our ability to progress can only be enhanced by lowering the financial boundaries to inclusion.
I note with encouragement the efforts of the GNSO in their final report of August 2007, under implementation guidelines IG N "ICANN may put in place a fee reduction scheme for gTLD applicants from economies classified by the UN as least developed" and Avri Doria's support and concern that not providing pricing that enables applications from less developed countries may serve to increase the divide.

error handling
Hi there,
There's an error during the upload of new comments:
I was looking twice at the preview, before I received the following posting result. It has been also the first comment of the entry.

New gTLDs, Trademark Law & Monopoly Law
Most peoples understanding of gTLDs is they differ from “domain names” in that they are used to identify a class of “domain names” or the source of domains from a constituent group.
Under trademark law Generic terms are not permitted as trademarks because they identify the product itself, not the source of a product.
Is this subtle but very important difference also to be incorporated into new gTLDs?

Media coverage of the new gTLD process
New gTLDs are high on this meetings agenda, so high in fact that a number of media have picked up the issue. While the International Herald Tribune
lives up to its reputation, others have been less investigative in their efforts, claiming that new TLDs will be introduced as of tomorrow and that domains may cost as much as 50 000 USD. One of many sad examples is provided by
n-tv, the German partner of CNN.

Posts regarding Pakistan registry
Over the past few months, there have been a number of posts regarding Pakistan's .pk registry in which a wide range of accusations have been levelled.
It has been explained on several occasions that ICANN does not have any agreement with the .pk registry, nor is it in any position to influence or dictate any policy with regard to .pk.
Posters have been asked to refrain from posting such messages on this website since there are neither relevant nor useful to this site's purpose. Posters have been also been warned that future posts will be deleted and their posting rights suspended.
Learning and participating in Paris meeting remotely.
I logged on to the ICANN site today and made my way to the chat room. On previous occasions I could watch video or if the quality wasn’t good enough I could at least listen to the audio in real time. I was told by the site admin in the chat room that there is no real time streaming for the whole of the Paris meeting.
Very disappointing.
Especially for an organization seeking to be more open and transparent in the eyes of the world.
Problem with whois database and registrars
ICANN has failed to decertify Godaddy, a US registrar with a proven track record of stealing peoples domain names (see http://ripoffreport.com/searchresults.asp?q1=ALL&q4=&q6=&q3=&q2=&q7=&searchtype=0&submit2=Search!&q5=godaddy.com&Search=Search). If you register a domain name with Godaddy, and someone else wants that name and is willing to pay a good price for it, Godaddy will take the name away from you. This is what happened to me for the domain name of regen-med.org My bank records demonstrate that the domain was timely renewed in January of 2008.
.JP Registry: DNAME aliasing for idn.idn?
I read this May 4, 2008 release from the Japan Registry Services entitles "DNAME Issues Regarding IDN TLD
Implementation".
For much of the last year only the term "aliasing" has been used by ICANN staffers, Tina Dam in particulary for the possiblity of converting idn.com, idn.net, idn.jp, idn.tv etc to also alias as idn.idn (equivalents).
Can someone from ICANN shed some light on what is going on with DNAME (solution proposed by Verisign), and also with the options for alising of .com etc. into the new idn.idn space.
$35 Redemption Fee?
I would seriously like to know why I was charged $35 dollars for renewing my domain by ICANN. It costs you exactly zero dollars to have my domain service register my site again. I think ICANN is ripping people off, especially if there is no issue regarding a domain, or its registration. Imagine the obnoxious amount of money these knobs are making off of people who simply forget to renew their domains on time. As well, names4ever.com never says anything about such a fee when you do renew. I think this is tanamount to a scam.
New gTLDs
The workshop “New gTLDs – Shaping the Future of the Internet?” has been scheduled as part of the forthcoming ICANN’s meeting in Paris.
On behalf of PuntoGal –an initiative in favour of a domain for the Galician language and culture- it is our hope that during this session ICANN will establish definitive steps for the new gTLDs application process.
