New gTLDs: My dream domain
Hello and welcome to my new blog, which covers the biggest change in 40-odd years: the liberalization of gTLDs. The latest move by ICANN means that any domain of any TLD can be registered. This also means companies can have websites with their names as gTLDs.
Well, because of this, I am billing to realise my internet dream of buying my very own domain: either home.athens, home.ath or if Athens Foods, Inc is happy to buy food.athens for their site, athens.com.
The reason is that the accepted birthplace of today's democracy is related to the ideal aim of the internet: to be free of censorship and control by governments.
How will I use it? Because I love fantasy worlds as a way to relieve my worries of today's world, I am going to use this domain to create a entirely fantasy universe that exists simply in the website. My fantasy world will be, of course, called Athens, a country based on Greece but inhabited by creatures you don't see on earth, along with the humans.
I think the liberalization of gTLDs is going to attract more people to start their own websites because they would be able to buy domains that suit their tastes, instead of having to settle for domains that isn't going make your site easily attractive, like yoursite.mainsite.co.uk or mypages-isp.com for example.
However, ownership of TLDs should be like owning a house.
Members are invited to tell what their dream domain would be, now that more TLDs are available. Thanks!
